Present: Dylan Ryals-Hamilton, Jake Tucker, Ron Martin-Adkins
- The Skill Share Fair held on August 20. We felt good about the event, presenters, attendance, location, and enthusiasm. We would like to try offering similar skill sharing events every six months. Thus, we will see about putting together another for the end of March or beginning of April. Some possible skills: gardening (the season will be upon us at that time), building raised beds, putting a solar oven together, and more as the time approaches. Meanwhile, we will also be looking into location possibilities; Lenoir-Rhyne campus was mentioned.
- Monthly social/gathering. For September 12th, Robert Zachary will share with us. Ron will be speaking with him on Sept. 1 or 2 to clarify. What we know is that he was recommended by a Transitioner because he is a charismatic figure active in the group that organizes the International Day of Peace event (this year held on Sept. 18) in Asheville. Possibilities for other coming months include Ned Doyle and his “crappy” presentation about humanure (did Dylan volunteer to contact him?); Cathy Holt and her work with Heart Speak and non-violent communication (Ron will contact her); Prof. Annie Pierce of Virginia Tech and her outreach work for eco-friendly practices (Jake will contact her).
- Our website. Dane Barrager has been working with Jane Stoffer and Michelle Smith to design a simpler and less expensive version using WordPress. A version was available for viewing (now awaiting the formal move to a different host server). Ron has forwarded basic content to Dane. More to come, but it won’t be long now (he says with great expectation!).
- Publicity. Ron reported that Becca Mahan has indicated she will be relinquishing this task after putting the word out about the September social/gathering. Ron will request from Becca how she has been carrying out the publicity for Transition Asheville’s events.
Next meeting of the Common Table: Oct. 3, 2016
